Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Have a thorough understanding of the project scope of work, specifications, schedule, and all inter-discipline requirements and issues; this includes identifying problems as concerns as far in advance as possible and taking suitable actions to resolve the issues.
  • Identify scope modifications and issue relevant change notifications with necessary backup documents and estimates. Assist with variation orders similar to the above identifications.
  • Closely interface with other sections for their inputs to discipline designs and drawings.
  • Keep other engineering disciplines, planning, fabrication, marine, and project management teams informed of relevant changes reasonably expected from other engineering sections.
  • Contribute to the preparation of estimates for bid proposals, including plans and work breakdown structures in response to technical queries, execution statements, and man-hours estimates.
  • As required, prepare discipline engineering design basis, philosophies, and technical specification documents.
  • Participate in the review of the final deliverables lists and deliverables. Ensure that all required inputs are provided to meet specification and design requirements.
  • As required, attend project review meetings, vendor meetings, engineering meetings, and offshore site surveys.
  • Directly supervise and assess designers that work on fire protection & safety engineering output that needs design guidance and evaluation.
  • As required, prepare and evaluate design documents and how those requirements are addressed in relevant procedures.
  • To allow other disciplines to progress with their deliverables, provide necessary design information.
  • Assist procurement people in purchasing discipline equipment, materials, and services, provided that the work done meets the customer goals and procedures.
  • Procurement assistance includes preparing and reviewing requisitions, evaluating technical quotations and preparing queries, compiling bid tabulations and recommendations, preparing purchase requisitions, and coordinating with procurement to expedite vendor documents, as directed by the discipline lead engineer.
  • Assist in updating weight report based on the receipt of vendor information.
  • Check engineering performed by others within the discipline (interdisciplinary checks).
  • Review vendor and subcontractor submittals, checking for compliance with project specifications and providing comments as necessary.
  • Perform design verification through single-discipline check/inter-discipline check (IDC).
  • Keep the lead engineer/PEM apprised of all activities and concerns, technical, budgetary, and manpower-related.
  • Assist in providing inputs for actual planning and forecasting progress reports, including associated productivity.
  • Check final subcontractor and vendor data manuals to ensure that all requested data has been received and approved.
  • Participate in internal, customer, and third-party technical audits on engineering deliverables and vendor documents.
  • Assist the lead engineer with responses to customers and other agencies (such as certifying authorities, auditors, third parties, etc.) on their review and approval.
  • Capture lessons learned and enter them into MDR’s Lessons Learned system.
  • Guide less experienced engineers on MDR and Discipline procedures, standards, worksheets, design calculations, software, requisitions, technical bid evaluations, technical queries, etc.
  • Develop HSE philosophy as well as fire and safety protection plans.
  • Define work scope for safety studies, develop requisitions, and TBE and purchase requisitions.
  • Assist with supervision reviews of the safety appraisal.
  • Assist with supervision reviews of the firefighting equipment technical order.
  • Assist with supervision reviews of lifesaving personnel protective equipment technical order.
  • Assist with supervision reviews of safety sign technical order.
  • Prepare and review firewater demand and hydraulic calculation reports using PIPENET or other comparable programs.
  • Mark up P&IDs for the firewater ring main system and deluge system, including interfacing with hose reels, monitors, hydrants, and deluge valves/nozzles.
  • Assist with supervision reviews of escape routes and safety equipment drawings.
  • Assist with supervision reviews of safety sign drawing.
  • Review subcontractor reports of safety studies to check compliance with project requirements.
  • Help Lead Engineer organize safety workshops (e.g. HAZID/HAZOP) and contribute to safety study work.
  • Help Lead Engineer check the completion of the safety study and write the final report.
  • Check FP&S and other disciplinary-relevant vendor documents.
  • Prepare technical notes on PFP rating requirements for the project as per the scope of the Safety Study.
  • Develop contributions for FP&S drawings and layouts for fire and gas detectors and prepare the fire and gas cause and effect matrices.
  • Check, edit and prepare the study Study Actions Monitoring System (SEAMS) and SEAMS logs
  • Ensure and verify operational manual safety processes
  • Education and Experience:

Required Qualifications:

8-15 years in oil and gas with a primary contractor or consultant in detailed design, Master or Bachelor of Engineering Strong knowledge of the workings of several design processes and techniques as well as their applicable use and scope within the standards codes and guidelines
