An exciting opportunity is open for a dedicated Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Advisor at Breedon Group plc, based in Kingsbridge, UK. This role plays a critical part in promoting a positive safety culture across the Hope Site, including associated depots and terminals.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer timely and professional HSE guidance to site teams, empowering informed decision-making across all operations.
- Lead and support incident investigations, identifying both immediate and root causes while generating actionable safety improvements.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of robust health and safety programs, including structured training and competency systems.
- Help maintain frameworks that ensure ongoing legal compliance with health and safety legislation.
- Research and introduce external best practices relevant to health and safety, developing clear implementation strategies.
- Conduct routine audits and inspections to assess compliance with applicable HSE laws and internal standards.
- Organize and deliver essential HSE training sessions, while maintaining accurate records of training activities.
- Manage induction processes for contractors and visitors, ensuring safe access to operational areas.
- Collaborate across various businesses within the Breedon Group to strengthen group-wide safety culture and performance.
Qualifications & Expertise
- NEBOSH National Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (or equivalent)
- IOSH membership is essential
- NEBOSH National Diploma is highly desirable
Experience Requirements
- Significant experience in a health and safety advisory capacity, ideally within industrial or infrastructure settings
- Proven ability to manage and improve both leading and lagging health and safety metrics
- Strong competence in conducting formal audits and evaluations
Core Skills and Competencies
- In-depth understanding of UK health and safety legislation and its practical application
- Capable of performing detailed risk assessments and communicating findings clearly
- Experience coaching and mentoring auditors and team members during HSE inspections
- Familiarity with behavior-based safety principles and the development of safety culture
- Strong verbal and written communication skills suitable for diverse professional environments
- Working knowledge of business management systems, including ISO 45001 or similar standards
- Awareness of current industrial health trends and how they impact workplace safety strategies
- High level of digital literacy, especially in using standard IT systems for reporting and documentation
