Network Rail is hiring an experienced Environment Specialist to support environmental management and sustainability initiatives across the London Region. This key role ensures legal compliance, promotes environmental awareness, and drives continuous improvement throughout the organisation’s Environmental Management System (EMS).
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate environmental management procedures and provide expert advice to internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead assurance activities to evaluate the effectiveness of the Regional Environmental Management System (EMS).
- Promote integration of sustainability practices across all levels of the organisation.
- Support incident investigations and recommend corrective actions where environmental risks or breaches are identified.
- Deliver and support environmental training programs to raise compliance awareness.
Day-to-Day Duties
- Offer subject-matter expertise on environmental compliance and sustainability legislation.
- Maintain accurate environmental records and ensure documentation supports EMS and emergency procedures.
- Act as liaison with key environmental stakeholders, including regulators and industry partners.
- Plan and carry out surveillance and inspection programs across operational areas.
- Track and verify the closeout of environmental non-conformities and corrective actions.
✅ Ideal Candidate Profile
- Thorough understanding of UK and EU environmental legislation and compliance standards.
- Strong working knowledge of Environmental Management Systems (preferably ISO 14001).
- Familiarity with maintenance processes and operational practices in infrastructure or transport sectors.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and organisational skills.
