Job Summary:

The Site EHS Specialist I plays a vital role within our Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team and serves as a key partner to operational site teams throughout project planning, execution, and post-outage review. This position is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of a comprehensive EHS plan at operational sites, ensuring best-in-class safety and sustainability standards.

The primary goal of this role is to observe, advise, coach, and support teams in the planning phase and during on-site execution to prevent injuries, drive accountability, and maintain compliance with company and client EHS policies, programs, and legal requirements.

The field EHS team is essential in promoting and implementing injury prevention initiatives and reinforcing our NO HARM safety culture.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Outage Planning – Risk Mitigation Before Deployment

  • Partner with operational teams in EHS planning, on-site execution, and outage closeout for lower-complexity outage scopes/customer sites, or support a Senior EHS Specialist in high-complexity projects as assigned by the Resource Manager.
  • Contribute to outage planning and Outage Readiness Reviews (ORRs), ensuring clear communication of EHS requirements with project teams and overseeing compliance activities, including adherence to local legislation and Gas Power OFS EHS programs.
  • Work closely with the Service Manager, Lead Field Engineer, Outage Manager, and Customer to identify and mitigate potential workplace hazards (e.g., asbestos, lead, arsenic, hexavalent chromium) that may impact the project scope.
  • Conduct site walkdowns to facilitate effective planning, ensuring safe access, egress, and laydown areas.
  • Ensure medical preparedness and verify the availability of medical facilities for all employees, maintaining proper records.

Mobilization Phase

  • Develop and maintain the One Field Services (OFS) EHS Plan, including risk management tools like the Outage Risk Profile, in collaboration with the Service and Outage Managers.
  • Establish and monitor adherence to work-rest cycle schedules for teams.
  • Manage compliance activities, ensuring adherence to local legislation and OFS EHS programs.
  • Confirm the submission of all required site documentation before the outage team’s arrival.
  • Provide project-specific EHS training, including site induction/orientation sessions for field crews, craft personnel, and visitors, ensuring awareness of site safety procedures and customer requirements. Maintain attendance records.
  • Complete and verify the Security Plan for non-U.S. Group I & II country safety requirements in coordination with the Security Team.

On-Site Execution

  • Drive the implementation of the OFS EHS Plan, standards, and procedures at the site.
  • Observe and monitor work progress, coaching and advising teams to ensure:
    • Correct field procedures are followed.
    • Hazardous work practices and conditions are identified and addressed proactively.
    • Effective hazard prevention conversations are held using tools like Task Risk Assessments (TRA).
    • Peer checks are conducted to minimize human error and prevent injuries.
  • Lead Toolbox Talks, safety meetings, and training sessions to ensure teams understand the risks associated with their tasks, while maintaining relevant records.
  • Stop work if conditions or practices are unsafe, and coach team members to do the same while identifying safe solutions to resume work.
  • Review customer permit systems, including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), hot work, confined space procedures, and lift plans.
  • Assist EHS Managers in investigating incidents and near misses, conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and compiling necessary documentation (photos, interviews, witness statements, etc.).
  • Conduct audits to ensure compliance with Company policy, OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable local/state regulations.
  • Promote early reporting of safety incidents and escalate accidents appropriately through company processes.
  • Ensure emergency response capabilities are in place and maintained, such as work-at-height rescue plans.
  • Oversee compliance with chemical management programs and conduct hazard hunts to eliminate risks and reinforce a No Harm safety culture.
  • Manage EHS shift reports and facilitate turnover shift processes.

Post-Outage Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit Post-Outage Reports as required, sharing insights with relevant stakeholders.
  • Contribute to lessons-learned sessions to improve future project execution.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Identify, escalate, and report high-risk hazards while implementing mitigation measures.
  • Develop innovative ways to motivate teams and reinforce a strong EHS culture.
  • Attend customer meetings as needed.
  • Seek mentorship and professional development in emerging safety challenges and best practices.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Be available to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as field assignments demand.
  • Support broader company initiatives to align with FieldCore’s vision and core values.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • (i) A Technical/University degree in EHS or an engineering discipline OR
  • (ii) A High School Diploma (GED) combined with relevant work experience in industrial safety or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of EHS regulatory requirements within the assigned work region, including risk management concepts such as risk identification, assessment, and control.
  • Ability to quickly research and interpret state/provincial/local EHS regulations.
  • Solid understanding of auditing processes.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to create comprehensive reports, document inspections, complete permits, and support Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach, mentor, and influence employees, leaders, and customers in high-pressure, safety-critical environments.
  • Willingness to travel on short notice.
  • Proficiency in English (written and verbal).
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office and other internet-based reporting tools.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior customer service experience.
  • Safety experience in Power Generation, Manufacturing, or Heavy Construction.
  • Understanding of risks associated with Gas Turbines, Steam Turbines, and Generators.
  • Professional EHS Certification (e.g., NEBOSH, OHST, CSP, COSS).
  • Familiarity with ISO 45001 and ISO 19011 standards.
  • Auditing certification.
  • Experience with Gensuite or other business reporting systems.
