This opportunity as an EHS Safety Specialist offers the chance to take a lead role in upholding high safety and environmental standards at the Springfield, USA facility. Key Responsibilities

  • Drive compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations by supporting routine audits and field inspections involving confined space, lockout/tagout, line breaks, and hot work.
  • Deliver hands-on leadership for safety performance across the site by leading emergency response teams and security operations.
  • Manage and coordinate emergency preparedness programs, including training for rope rescue, HAZMAT, first aid, and confined space rescue.
  • Maintain accurate training records and communicate safety compliance across the entire mill.
  • Update safety training materials and collaborate with the training coordinator to manage ongoing safety training programs.
  • Provide structured support to the Safety Steering Team by managing key deliverables and facilitating communication of safety goals and achievements.
  • Assist with the implementation and oversight of safety initiatives such as evacuation plans, departmental safety audits, site-wide training days, annual outages, and hearing conservation programs.
  • Monitor safety signage needs and maintain up-to-date safety policy documentation.
  • Support 24/7 manufacturing operations, including occasional weekends or evening shifts during outages or unplanned events.
  • Collaborate across departments to improve overall mill safety performance, profitability, and community engagement.
  • Oversee budgeting for EHS contractor and consultant services, and manage related purchase requisitions in line with departmental planning.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 1 to 5 years of experience in a professional safety role, ideally within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Background in paper mill operations is advantageous.
  • Prior leadership experience in emergency response or first-responder teams is preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety as a foundational business value.
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel.
