An exciting opportunity is open for an experienced EHS Field Specialist to support essential safety operations in Artesia, New Mexico. This role plays a key part in promoting a safe work environment across pipeline, terminal, and tank farm operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify potential hazards affecting employees and contractors and help reduce workplace incidents and injuries.
  • Provide essential safety support and ensure health and safety practices are followed in daily field operations.
  • Conduct onsite assessments to observe job tasks, ensure compliance with safe work practices, and provide real-time coaching and hazard mitigation.
  • Lead safety training sessions and assist in aligning training content with regulatory requirements and operational risks.
  • Participate in new hire orientations and onboarding programs to embed safety culture from day one.
  • Collaborate with operational teams to develop and implement safety policies and procedures.
  • Engage in environmental, health, and safety (EHS) working groups aimed at continuous improvement, emergency readiness, and operational excellence.
  • Serve as an active member of the emergency response team, participating in drills and equipment deployment scenarios.
  • Investigate safety incidents, document findings, and help implement corrective measures.
  • Support contractor compliance efforts through ISNetworld.
  • Assist with job hazard analyses, project plans, and safe operating procedures.
  • Contribute to internal health and safety audits.
  • Maintain up-to-date SDS inventories and compliance documentation.
  • Issue safe work and confined space permits when required.
  • Conduct or coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring to assess exposure risks.
  • Help maintain and monitor safety equipment and tools.
  • Provide guidance on health and safety matters across departments.
  • Track OSHA recordables and ensure all documentation is up to date.
  • Review, implement, and enhance compliance policies in line with OSHA, API standards, and industry best practices.
  • Deliver Smith System driver safety training to reduce motor vehicle incidents.
  • Facilitate First Aid/CPR/AED training as needed.
  • Offer safety coverage for specialized or short-term projects.
  • Handle other assignments as determined by leadership.

Experience and Education

  • Minimum of five years of experience in pipeline, refining, or oil & gas sectors.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required. In absence of a degree, an additional four years of relevant experience will be considered.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in occupational safety and industrial hygiene practices.
  • Specialized certifications in areas such as incident investigation, hazard assessment, and case management.
  • Ability to apply regulatory knowledge to real-world worksite conditions.
  • Capable of standing firm on safety compliance while maintaining respectful interactions.
  • Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written.
  • Competent in reading technical documentation and performing intermediate-level math.
  • Willingness to undergo a complete medical exam and meet physical demands of the role.

Work Environment and Conditions

  • Primarily field and office-based with up to 40% overnight travel.
  • Exposure to environments typical of the midstream petroleum industry, including chemicals, confined spaces, rotating equipment, and varying weather conditions.
  • Available for after-hours and weekend call-outs when necessary.

Physical Requirements

  • Tasks may involve walking, climbing (up to 50 ft), lifting (up to 25 lbs), pushing, pulling, kneeling, crouching, and using PPE.
  • Requires visual inspections, precise hand movements, and extended periods of standing or sitting.
