Farrans Construction is looking for an experienced HSE Officer to support key civil and infrastructure projects in Essex, UK. This is an exciting opportunity to influence safety leadership behaviours, drive compliance, and support the SHE function across high-profile construction environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate exemplary SHE leadership by upholding strong ethical standards and professional conduct.
  • Plan and carry out regular audits of project sites and SHE documentation.
  • Assist in managing and coordinating external SHE audit programs.
  • Support the investigation and reporting of incidents in line with company safety procedures.
  • Provide support to the SHE Manager during regulator interactions and official requests.
  • Guide project teams in fulfilling both regulatory and client-specific SHE requirements.
  • Help implement a unified company-wide SHE management approach.
  • Advise Farrans’ management on resolving SHE challenges with practical, solution-based strategies.
  • Stay updated on changes in health, safety, and environmental legislation, maintain a legal register, and ensure integration within the company’s environmental management system.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Previous experience in construction safety, ideally within civil or airport infrastructure environments.
  • Effective understanding of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation and construction best practices.
  • Proven track record in operating SHEQ management systems and compliance frameworks.
  • Strong IT skills — proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) and online document portals like Aconex or Deltek PIM (FOCAL).
  • Comfortable working with multiple stakeholders across varied project sites.
  • NEBOSH Health and Safety at Work Certificate (HSW) required.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Possession of a valid and appropriate CSCS Card.
