Position Summary
Southland Industries is hiring for a Safety Coordinator in Houston, Texas. This position plays a vital role in planning, coordinating, and implementing the safety, health, and environmental programs aligned with corporate safety standards. The goal is to foster a safe, incident-free work environment across all active job sites.
️ What You’ll Do
- Promote a behavior-driven safety culture by facilitating a safe and healthy workplace.
- Monitor and educate the workforce on all aspects of workplace health and safety compliance.
- Conduct safety training on regulations, hazardous conditions, PPE use, and material handling.
- Lead site inspections and audits with a focus on hazard recognition, OSHA compliance, and unsafe behaviors.
- Document inspection outcomes and work with site supervisors to ensure corrective actions are fully implemented.
- Manage the development and review of Task Hazard Analyses (THA) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHA).
- Coordinate necessary safety training programs based on site-specific needs.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations across assigned projects.
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and property damage claims; compile data and complete all reports.
- Participate in accident review meetings and accompany regulatory inspectors during site tours.
- Issue work permits such as confined space entry as needed.
- Conduct safety orientations for new hires and ensure field teams stay informed and compliant.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with project supervisors and field staff to support safety efforts.
- Maintain all safety documentation accurately and in compliance with regulations.
- Support other site safety duties and assignments as directed.
Requirements for Success
- Minimum 2 years of experience in construction or industrial safety management.
- Strong understanding of applicable federal, state, local, and company safety regulations.
- Proven ability to recognize hazards and implement corrective actions promptly.
- Experienced in documenting and reporting incident investigations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant tools.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Willingness to work extended or irregular hours when needed.
- Ability to meet jobsite-specific access requirements without restrictions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety/Health or equivalent experience in construction safety.
- Certifications: OSHA 510 or 511, First Aid/CPR (Required).
