The Safety Specialist plays a critical role in fostering a proactive safety culture rooted in zero-incident performance. This role ensures compliance with all health and safety standards while actively promoting awareness and accountability across project teams.

- Provide daily health and safety support tailored to meet project-specific needs and Forgen’s overall safety goals.
- Monitor, report, and maintain accurate safety performance data.
- Collaborate in developing and enforcing project-specific Health and Safety Plans (HASP).
- Translate safety protocols into action by applying risk assessments and hazard identification on-site.
- Support Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) development and review.
- Log safety data and reports—including observations, inspections, trainings, and incidents—into Safety Mojo.
- Lead new hire orientations and deliver safety training to reinforce ongoing awareness.
- Conduct incident investigations, create comprehensive reports, and track corrective actions.
- Engage in internal and client audits, inspections, and project safety meetings.
- Bridge communication between client safety teams and on-site operations.
- Perform routine inspections on fire extinguishers, ladders, harnesses, and other safety equipment.
- Conduct weekly site safety walkthroughs and share updates with leadership.
- Assess weekly project schedules and flag potential safety concerns early.
- Perform industrial hygiene tasks like air sampling, monitoring, data logging, and calibration.
- Track certifications, medical screenings, and training renewals for project team members.
- Manage PPE inventory, ensuring proper equipment is issued and available on-site.
- Recommend third-party training programs and notify relevant teams as needed.
- Design safety training modules aligned with the project’s Training Matrix.
- Use Microsoft Office tools for documentation and communication.
- Take on special projects and assignments as directed.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in safety, engineering, construction, or a related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on safety management experience in civil, environmental, or general construction—or similar industries such as oil refining or mining.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally for project work.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following certifications and training courses are highly valued. Training support will be provided where necessary:
- 40-Hour HAZWOPER
- Competent Person Training
- 8-Hour Supervisory Training
- OSHA 500 Certification
- 30-Hour OSHA Construction Safety Training
- EM 385-1-1 Safety Training
- First Aid & CPR Certification
- BCSP credentials (e.g., CSP, CHST, STS)
- MSHA Certification
