The HSE Specialist position at Nufarm offers the opportunity to lead and shape health, safety, and environmental performance at two key manufacturing facilities in the Chicago Heights area. Key Responsibilities
- Act as a technical HSE resource for site leaders, supporting day-to-day decisions with compliance and safety expertise.
- Support site objectives by aligning all safety strategies with regulatory and internal HSE targets.
- Maintain accurate regulatory records, including OSHA logs, and handle timely compliance reporting.
- Lead HSE audit and inspection programs, ensuring site conditions meet company standards and legal expectations.
- Analyze HSE data to identify trends, emerging risks, and areas for improvement; collaborate on mitigation strategies.
- Create, review, update, and audit procedures for:
- Permit to Work
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Hazard Communication
- Emergency Action Plans
- PPE Requirements
- Respiratory Protection
- Confined Space Entry
- Fire Prevention Plans
- HAZWOPER Compliance
- Electrical Safety
- Manage HSE training programs, including content development, scheduling, delivery, and record-keeping.
- Direct and lead HSE committees for both Alsip and Chicago Heights locations.
- Oversee the incident reporting and investigation process using RCA, 5 Whys, and other root cause tools.
- Coordinate industrial hygiene assessments, including sampling and analysis for workplace exposure risks.
- Execute targeted safety initiatives to eliminate hazards and proactively manage risks.
- Conduct risk assessments and provide technical support as required.
- Manage injury and illness case follow-up and reduce workers’ compensation claims.
- Support system implementation for standards like OSHA PSM and ISO 14001.
- Contribute to sustainability goals through localized HSE actions.
- Assist in HSE budget planning and performance tracking.
- Collaborate closely with the HSE Director, North America, and support other responsibilities as needed.

What You’ll Need to Succeed
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing setting with direct responsibility for HSE compliance.
- Bachelor’s degree in:
- Occupational Health
- Industrial Hygiene
- Safety Engineering
- Environmental Science
- Biology, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering
- Equivalent combinations of education, experience, and skills will also be considered.
- Strong familiarity with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
