Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Offshore Environmental Inspector, you will:
- Lead a Team: Provide strong leadership to a team of Offshore Environmental Inspectors in the Central North Sea Regional Delivery Programme (RDP), including direct management of specialist inspectors.
- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement work plans that align with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) priorities, including Climate Security, Energy Security, Economic Security, and Consumer Security.
- Inspection Oversight: Define and oversee a prioritized inspection and investigation program, ensuring consistency, transparency, and proportionality in the review of inspection findings.
- Regulatory Compliance: Conduct offshore inspections, investigations, and assessments to monitor compliance with environmental regulations and respond to non-compliance events effectively.
- Emergency Response: Participate in a 24/7 incident response capability, advising on environmental risks and regulatory breaches.
- Collaboration and Liaison: Engage with industry groups, government departments, and non-governmental organizations to drive improvements in operational and response procedures.
- Policy Development: Review and develop regulatory processes, policies, and guidance to ensure robust environmental protection standards.
- Leadership in the Region: Manage environmental managers within the Central North Sea region, chair regional meetings, and report operational delivery outcomes to senior management.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To excel in this role, you must have:
- Educational Background: A higher-level qualification in science, engineering, environmental studies, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Proven expertise in inspection, regulation, or enforcement within the oil and gas or related industries.
- Significant industry experience in a technical leadership role (e.g., production, drilling, maintenance, combustion plant, or subsea operations).
- Physical Requirements: Ability to pass Offshore Medical and Offshore Training Survival Courses.
Desirable Skills:
- Leadership or management experience in a regulatory, technical, or enforcement capacity.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a collaborative, pragmatic approach.
